Arts and Crafts
At Camp Winston children actively participate and create beautiful art. The outcome in terms of product is remarkable, however even more important is the process involved in creating art. This process of creative expression enhances self-esteem in children who for the first time are supported, physically, emotionally and cognitively to ensure completion of task

Nature
Nature activities were introduced in 1996 and quickly became popular. Nature rotations provide children with the opportunity to learn about the natural environment surrounding them. The outcome of these lessons leads to a better understanding and appreciation of the natural world. Camp Winston is situated on Sparrow Lake and is ideal for nature exploration.

Canoeing and Sailing

Water-skiing and Tubing
Water-skiing and tubing are popular activities at Camp Winston. These activities facilitate building of trust and self confidence in our campers. As a stepping stone to water-skiing, children participate in tubing. Tubing allows children to establish trust in the driver of the boat as well as a building of confidence in their ability to participate in the activity that is most exhilarating. Once these elements have been maintained the final stage, water-skiing can be attempted. Most of our campers have never been water-skiing, however once they learn, an enormous sense of pride self-esteem and accomplishment ensues.

Drama
Our Drama programme is designed to allow children the opportunity to express themselves and learn in the theatrical environment. Our site is equipped with a small theatre, stage and curtain. We have also accumulated an extensive prop and costume collection.

Swimming
The swimming programme at Camp Winston is both instructional and recreational. Each day small groups of children (4) attend swim lessons where with a 1:1 ratio they learn new skills in both shallow and deep water. For most of our children attending swim lessons is very difficult, and the opportunity of receiving this 1:1 instruction is significant. Most of our children learn best in a 1:1 structured environment where each child can learn at an individual basis free of pressure from peers.
Children also have the opportunity for general swims each day where they can, while under the supervision of a counsellor, enjoy the wide range of waterfront activities at Camp Winston.

Sports
Children who attend Camp Winston usually have had little success at sports. At school or socially these children find it difficult to participate actively in gym activities or find peers to play with due to their social skills deficits and co-ordination difficulties. The opportunity of extracurricular participation (ie. baseball teams) is also limited due to behaviour and socialization difficulties.
At Camp Winston all children participate, at times with physical support, in our wide range of activities including; basketball, floor hockey, baseball, soccer, football, badminton and trampoline.
Under the direction of our Sports instructor and with the assistance of counsellors, children begin to enjoy sports and learn skills that can be carried over to the non-camp environment.
